Box Culverts to Divert Water – East Beltway Project
Project Requirements
- First box culverts were double box, with each box measuring 12’ wide x 12’ tall that was 342’ feet long
- Inside and outside wall forms and roof panels
- Support for the roof ties so they could cast in place
- Second box culvert measuring 792’ long and required 20 pours with the 40’ long traveler system

Project Overview
Hawkins Construction was awarded the East Beltway Project. This project is an effort to improve transportation for the continued land development of eastern Council Bluffs, Iowa. The scope of it is to link US Highway 6 to US Highway 92. Prior to the new road going in, Hawkins Construction needed to construct two sections of box culvert to divert water for the new road system.
Customer Benefit
- Utilizing the efficient cycling method through the Box Culvert Traveler so they could easily complete a pour every other day
- Hawkins utilized a 40’ long EFCO Box Culvert Traveler to complete this stretch of culvert in 10 pours. The Traveler was constructed with EFCO’s standard EFCO LITE® wall system along with the needed box culvert accessories
