Cost-Effective Formwork Solutions for Infrastructure

Cast-in-place Concrete Bridge Construction

Uninterrupted Traffic Flow

Infrastructure projects, like bridges, are one of the most challenging structures to build from a civil engineering perspective. The pressure contractors and construction companies face for increased building operations and demanding schedules causes a demand for cost-effective formwork solutions. With over 80 years of civil engineering experience, EFCO is committed to contributing. We will be there from the planning stage, helping determine the best formwork to supporting you on the job site. EFCO products are made in the USA and have worldwide distribution for the necessity of serving customers efficiently and timely.

Texas, The Lone Star State

Texas is a big state, the biggest of the lower forty-eight. First in the nation in crude oil production as well as beef, Texas is home to 29 million residents with 1.3 million living in Dallas alone. In everything they do, Texan’s like to think big.

State-of-the-art Infrastructure Construction in Texas

In 2020, Texas ranked at the top of the Global Groundwork Index for the United States. This index grades the level of economic prosperity based on the number of dollars spent on roads and bridges as well as other infrastructure projects in combination with corporate facility activities. Texas again clenched the number one spot on the index for 2021 and Texas Governor Greg Abbot commented on the recent release of the ranking, “Our state-of-the-art infrastructure construction and thriving business climate have kept Texas the top state for economic prosperity. As our economy rebounds from the COVID downturn, we will continue strengthening our infrastructure, creating more jobs, and fostering a more prosperous economic environment for all Texans.” Texas plans to get bigger.

TxDOT Desires Safe Construction Site

World-Class Infrastructure Project

TxDOT maintains the largest inventory of bridges in the United States dedicated to vehicular traffic. As the state continues to grow in population and large-truck traffic increases, state infrastructure construction is demanding attention and TxDOT has committed to identifying innovative solutions. This includes that all roadways and bridges are safe but also world-class.

State Loop 12

Webber, LLC partners with EFCO Formwork Solution Specialist

A recent contract awarded by TxDOT to Webber, LLC is the reconstruction of the State Loop 12 around Dallas. With a Texas-sized price tag of $301M, the contract includes reconstruction of existing interchanges between State Loop 12, State Spur 482, State Highway 114, and 183.

Cast-In-Place Concrete Bridge | Uninterrupted Traffic Flow During Bridge Construction

Cast-In-Place Concrete Bridges EFCO Formwork Used

The project scope of work involves the construction of 32 new cast-in-place bridges, 10 direct connectors, 22 overpass bridges, concrete walls, concrete pavement, and widening of existing main lanes and frontage roads.

Dedicated to Safety

Webber, headquartered in Houston, Texas, specializes in heavy civil and waterworks construction. A subsidiary of Spain’s Ferrovial S.A., Webber possesses an arsenal of best-in-class engineers and technology that makes them an excellent choice for the Dallas reconstruction project. The Webber engineering team worked closely with EFCO engineers during all phases of the construction project to find the ideal system for each requirement.

Uninterrupted Traffic Flow During Bridge Construction

Webber has partnered with EFCO before and is working with us again on the construction of this monumental bridge project. As part of the Texas Clear Lanes project, the objective is to provide congestion relief through non-tolled roads focusing on the largest of five metropolitan areas in Texas.  One of the stipulations for the construction of this bridge project is to have uninterrupted traffic flow, meaning no construction work can interfere with day-to-day travel through the city of Dallas. With a one-team, one-solution game plan, the project is progressing on schedule.

EFCO Formwork for Bridge Columns and Bridge Caps

EFCO is providing formwork solutions for the entire scope of the State Loop 12 project including concrete formwork systems for 700 drill shafts, 500+ pier columns, and 200+ pier caps to support the 4.8 miles of bridges. The forming system of choice for this forming solution was the EFCO Round Column® which is easily combined with EFCO’s PLATE GIRDER® or SUPER PLATE GIRDER® formwork to handle pier requirements easily and efficiently. Overall, EFCO is supplying close to 1 million pounds of equipment to be used in conjunction with the system formwork that Webber already owns.

Texas-sized statistics for this project include:

  • 1.2 million square feet (about the area of Chicago’s Millennium Park) of reinforced concrete slab
  • 170,000 LF of concrete bridge beams (32.3 miles)
  • 200,000 cubic yards of concrete
  • 90,000 tons of hot mix asphalt
  • 2.8 million pounds of steel plate beams
  • 41 retaining walls
