PT-100 and Wall Forming Systems Offer Customized Solution
San Francisco, California
Collaboration and Formwork Customization
The Isle House is a residential development on the western side of San Fransisco’s Treasure Island that includes a 22-story tower rising above two additional low-rise building wings. Webcor Craft was selected as the contractor to build the cast-in-place concrete framing, flat-plate post-tensioned concrete slabs and columns, and the internal elevator core. Webcor Craft confidently turned to EFCO’s proven formwork expertise, recognizing the need for specialized concrete forming solutions.
Enhanced Productivity and Efficiency
Webcor used EFCO’s lightweight E-BEAM & SUPER STUD® wall forming system with plywood sheeting for all walls. EFCO supplied the POWER TOWER® PT-100 hydraulic core lifting system to carry the E-BEAM & SUPER STUD wall forms and boom up the elevator core. EFCO preassembled the E-BEAM & SUPER STUD wall gangs and the POWER TOWER PT-100, delivering them to the site in the largest possible sections to fit on wide-load trucks. Providing larger formwork gangs in fewer truckloads allowed for the reduction of crew hours as the building progressed—what started as a seven-person job was eventually reduced to three people inside the core supporting a five-day cycle per floor.
Easy Formwork Stripping and Dismantling
During the stripping stage, the ease and innovation of the PT-100 system allowed Webcor to strip and jump it in just two days. Thanks to the advanced self-leveling hydraulics, one person could control the setup from a computer while two others worked on building the handrail inside the core, laying out the deck, or assisting carpenters.
When topping off and getting ready for tear down, Webcor easily dismantled the wall formwork system. They had detailed talks with EFCO on how to remove each piece and in what order. An EFCO rep was on site, ready to oversee the work, guide the crew as needed, and ensure all the deliveries with trailers and carriers were in order. With EFCO support, Webcor got the formwork taken down in under three days.
Why Webcor Chose EFCO
Webcor’s decision to use EFCO products and services for this project was driven by EFCO’s reputation for simplicity in solutions, productivity, and overall cost-effectiveness. EFCO’s innovative products, including the POWER TOWER® PT-100, PLATE GIRDER, and E-BEAM & SUPER STUD wall systems, coupled with their logistical and operational excellence, helped Webcor achieve the lowest in-place concrete cost.
EFCO makes coordination, field reps’ on-site presence, and material availability easy. Whatever it is, EFCO pretty much does it for us right there. They have a lot of knowledge; they directly help people in our field.
